DogPACT Training Pet Manners

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings at either 6:30 or 7:30 p.m. with a new class forming every few weeks. Contact Us to find out when the next class begins.

Below is a list of all of our classes. Due to our small class sizes, pre-enrollment is required. Please click on "Enrollment Materials" to download registration forms and enrollment information for each class.

Pet Manners I

Duration of class: 7 weeks
When: Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Long Beach
Minimum age of dog: 16 weeks (or two vaccines)
Maximum enrollment: 8 student-dog teams per instructor
Prerequisite: None
Cost: $125.00

Class Description

In this fun and upbeat 7-week course, students build a solid foundation of basic behaviors, using a variety of positive reinforcement techniques. Foundation behaviors taught in Pet Manners I include:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Loose-leash walking
  • Polite greeting (v. jumping up on people)

The first night of class is held without dogs; there will be group exercises and demonstrations. Students receive a class packet that includes weekly handouts and homework assignments, and a variety of behavior-specific handouts that support students’ learning. The Pet Manners I class is seven weeks long, with each class lasting 50 minutes. Cost is $125.00 for the seven-week course. Due to the small class size, pre-enrollment is required.

Pet Manners II

Duration of class: 6 weeks
When: Wednesdays, 6:30 or 7:30 p.m.
Where: Long Beach
Minimum age of dog: Any age
Maximum enrollment: 8 student-dog teams per instructor
Prerequisite: Pet Manners I
Cost: $110.00

Class Description

In this 6-week course, students are challenged to build upon the basic behaviors learned in Pet Manners I and to add to new ones. These include:

  • Advanced come when called
  • Advanced loose-leash walking
  • Leave It
  • Settle

A class packet is provided on the first night of class. It includes weekly handouts and homework assignments, and a variety of behavior-specific handouts that support students’ learning. Pet Manners I—or permission of the instructor—is a prerequisite for enrollment in Pet Manners II. Each Pet Manners II class lasts 50 minutes. Cost is $110.00 for the six-week course. Due to the small class size, pre-enrollment is required.

Pet Maners II Application

Real-Life Pet Manners

Duration of class: 4 weeks
When: Wednesdays, 6:30 or 7:30 p.m.
Where: Long Beach
Minimum age of dog: Any age
Maximum enrollment: 5 student-dog teams per instructor
Prerequisite: Pet Manners I and II, or permission of the instructor
Cost: $85.00

Class Description

In this 4-week course, students take the behaviors learned in Pet Manners I and II into real-life, practical situations. Real-Life Pet Manners is the best way to take your training on the road with a coach at your elbow. Your DogPACT instructor will be there to supervise each outing and coach you about how to handle an excited dog in an exciting environment.

  • Test your “Settle” while enjoying coffee with other members of your class at a nearby coffee house.
  • Practice polite greetings during approaches by friendly strangers.
  • Use your “Down/Stay” while withdrawing cash at the ATM and then again while spending that cash at a nearby pet store.
  • Test you “Leave It” in a variety of tempting situations.
  • Visit the veterinary office and learn how to keep your dog focused on you. We’ll even teach you how to get your dog to weigh itself on the scale!

Pet Manners I and II—or permission of the instructor—is a prerequisite for enrollment in Real-Life Pet Manners. Each Real-Life Pet Manners class lasts 50 minutes. Cost is $85.00 for the four-week course. Due to the small class size, pre-enrollment is required.
